For starters:
Because it’s 2020, I will address the most obvious questions first and move on to the actual fun from hereafter! Gull Meadow Farms has done an incredible job. First, for creating the perfect Christmas Tradition. Next, at providing an event that follows CDC Guidelines and procedures for allowing safe and social distanced fun for all ages! For instance, masks were required for entry into the greenhouses, and inside the Market. Plus there were ample supplies of hand sanitizer readily available. Additionally, the walkways were wide and spaced out well enough that everyone had their own room, even to pass another party who had paused to enjoy the show.
Hot Cocoa, Warm Apple Cider, Coffee for $1.50 & Pop/Water for $1.25 is available to purchase directly inside the first greenhouse after showing your tickets! We obliged- Christmas tradition and all, and it was perfect for the crisp walk through the lights! (More on temperatures and comfortability to come!)
As you make your way through the light display, there are plenty of “photo op” areas set and ready for pictures! There are signs near stating that masks may be removed if you wish for pictures. But clearly stated, they are to be replaced directly afterwards. I found this so nice for pictures not to be completely overtaken by the masks, but still keeping everyone safe while keeping the spirit for our Christmas tradition alive! Especially when we look back in years to come.
Keeping the Christmas Tradition Going:

Baby, its Cold Outside…
While continuing the tour, you will notice the greenhouses aren’t nearly as cold inside as temperature is outdoors! This is because the heaters in each greenhouse do a great job at keeping it comfortable with your winter gear still on! In addition to the beverages available to purchase at the entrance, you are unlikely to be overly chilled. The small passageways between the greenhouses are brisk outside, so bundling up is recommended! Nora was most comfortable taking her hat and mittens off while inside. Even though she wasn’t a huge fan when we would help her get them put back on before exiting each greenhouse! Being 25 weeks pregnant for some reason I was very nervous I would get too cold… yeah right!
Dressing for the Christmas Season in
Southwest MI (20-30*)
Mama dressed with long johns and a pair of leggings under a pair of jeans. On top I layered a long sleeve shirt over the long john top, a wool sweater and my “maternity” winter peacoat.
Nora was clad in jeans with sweatpants over, her cowl sweater from Old Navy. But we did bring a blanket just in case.
My husband wore his long johns, and he just had on a pullover under his heavy coat with jeans. Men!
Overall- we were all comfortable with our overabundance of layers. I am grateful to be over dressed and able to take layers off if needed, rather than being too cold.

Long Johns for the Fam
Spacing and Social Distanced this Christmas-
We attended the light tour around 7PM on a Thursday and there really weren’t too many others that were around! Truly- it was nice to have the place basically to ourselves! Above all, we enjoyed as a family without having to wait in line or double check our distance around others.
Next, is the Christmas tree forest, the passageway of popular Christmas and finally the movie character Inflatables with many photo ops staged throughout. The tour is a delight through every greenhouse you enter!
There was one light display that was set up to play to music, and had flashing depending on what song was playing. Before entering that greenhouse, there is a sign posted warning of the flashing lights! So incredibly helpful to those who know they have sensitivities to bright flashing lights!
Video footage from our walk through the lights was posted in stories over on Instagram!
Saved to a highlight- I have them linked below for easy navigation!
Why we returned for the tradition:
To conclude the tour- a final greenhouse was set up with a stunning display of lights that you walked through. Christmas music was playing, but no flashing lights in this one, for the record. Just a beautiful display with an enchanting walkway that has you feeling like you were in a movie scene headed towards the North Pole itself!
Nora especially loved this greenhouse display because the lights were truly mesmerizing. Lots of “ooo’s” and “wow’s” were had by the toddler- and it made my mommy heart happy that she had such an incredible time! So thankful for this Christmas tradition!
I almost forgot to mention- Santa is available to pre-schedule a time to see, but we as a family chose to skip that part of the event.
Yet again, we were blown away by the display this year- and we will be attending the show for as long as offered and we are able! Thank you to Gull Meadows for creating such an incredible display, and for inviting us to experience again this year. This will be a Christmas tradition we look forward to for years to come in our family! Next year we plan on attending as a family of four! Get ready for a 9 month-ish Caswell boy!
Perfect winter family activity for all ages- and I feel so blessed to have this available in our community!
I will attach a link to the Gull Meadow Farms Website below- no matter what the season is currently they host incredible events for the whole family!
